In the Sodeok-dong arc of the global Netflix hit Extraordinary Attorney Woo, the villagers and Attorney Woo Young-woo rally to protect a great old tree. That tree is real: a hackberry in Bukbu-ri, Daesan-myeon, Changwon, in southern Korea. Estimated at around 500 years old, it drew so many visitors after the drama aired that it was designated a Natural Monument in 2022.
Standing alone on a low rise overlooking fields and the village, the tree matches the drama's framing almost exactly. To protect it, viewing decks keep visitors at a distance, so the best photos are taken from the photo spot at the bottom of the hill.
It looks most dramatic in late spring and summer when the canopy is full and green. Easy to combine with a Changwon–Gimhae trip.
