VisitingReached by passenger ferry from Mokpo (few sailings; frequent weather cancellations) — plan an overnight stay.

Manjaedo, a tiny island in Sinan on Korea's southwest coast, is where Cha Seung-won, Yoo Hae-jin and Son Ho-jun caught, grew and cooked their own meals in the hit variety show Three Meals a Day: Fishing Village. It sits more than four hours by passenger ferry from Mokpo, and the show's famous 'Manjaedo alchemist' moments — Cha turning a simple wood-fired stove into a kitchen — all happened here.

The island is small but alive with rock-fishing coves, a ridge trail up to the lighthouse and wide-open sea views. With only one or two ferries a day, this is a place to plan an overnight stay rather than a spur-of-the-moment trip.

If you want a 'real' fishing village far from the crowds, the difficult access is exactly the point. Sailings are often cancelled in rough weather, so always check the ferry operator's schedule before you go.
