In Workman, Jang Sung-kyu worked a sundae-gukbap (blood-sausage soup) shift — declaring it 'the future of Korean rice meals' — at Jangteo Sundae-guk in the Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market (Sokcho Jungang Market). That episode, experiencing the hard graft of the kitchen, came from this market.
The Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market is Sokcho's signature food market, densely packed with a dakgangjeong (sweet crispy chicken) street, a sundae alley, and grilled-fish and mulhoe restaurants. It's the place to fill up on freshly fried dakgangjeong, rich sundae soup and market-style sashimi and cold raw-fish soup.
From the market, take the gaetbae ferry across to Abai Village, or continue to Yeonggeumjeong and Sokcho Beach to round out a Sokcho trip. On weekends and in peak season the dakgangjeong lines are long.
