Sangmu Ampong Sundae Gukbap in Seo-gu, Gwangju, became a talking point after appearing on Sung Si-kyung's YouTube food show 'Mukeultende.' It's one of Gwangju's proud old sundae-soup houses.
'Ampong' refers to cuts from the sow, and the signature bowl is a milky, hearty soup packed with chewy ampong, blood sausage (sundae) and head meat. Add perilla and chives for the rich Gwangju-style bowl.
It's in Gwangju's Sangmu district, near the May 18th Memorial Park and Kimdaejung Convention Center. After your meal, continue to Yangnim-dong or the 1913 Songjeong Station Market for a fuller Gwangju route.
