Taehwajang in Dong-gu, Daejeon, became a talking point after Sung Si-kyung visited with chef Baek Jong-won on his YouTube food show 'Mukeultende.' It's a veteran Hwagyo (overseas-Chinese) restaurant in the old downtown near Daejeon Station.
The house specialties are smoky jjamppong, jjajangmyeon and thick hand-made fried dumplings. Decades in the same spot have earned it a deep, time-honored flavor and a loyal following.
In old-town Daejeon it pairs well with a Sungsimdang bakery run and the Euneungjeongi street for a full Daejeon food day. As an old establishment, check its hours and closing days before you go.
