Gangneung is where the cast of 2 Days & 1 Night Season 1 roamed the east-coast city in the 'Gangneung city trip' episode. The city's charm — sea, lake and a cup of coffee all in one — was captured on camera.
Gangneung is famous for Gyeongpo Lake and Gyeongpo Beach, and for the Anmok coffee street that began with humble vending-machine coffee. Add the historic houses of Ojukheon and Seongyojang, the sunrise at Jeongdongjin and the Badabuchgil coastal trail for a packed itinerary.
It's just two hours from Seoul by KTX, so an easy weekend overnight. Base yourself around Gyeongpo and Anmok, then widen out to Jeongdongjin and Jumunjin for a full Gangwon east-coast course.
